Has Ferrari’s Luce Sold Out in China?

Italian automaker Ferrari has opened orders in China for the Luce, its first fully electric model, with prices starting from around 3.988 million yuan, equivalent to approximately AED 2.15 million or 586,600 dollars.

Ferrari Opens Luce Orders in China

Early reports from Chinese media claimed that Ferrari’s entire allocation for the Chinese market, limited to 88 cars, had sold out immediately after launch.

However, later reports suggested that Ferrari dealers are still accepting orders for the new Luce EV, which delivers 1,036 horsepower.

Ferrari sales staff in Beijing denied claims that orders had been closed due to a sold out allocation. Instead, they confirmed that the Luce remains available to order.

The Ferrari Luce appears to be attracting strong attention in China, Ferrari’s second largest market worldwide. Still, the car has sparked mixed reactions online because of its unconventional design and the absence of an internal combustion engine, marking a historic first for Ferrari.

China Remains Crucial for Ferrari

China is an important market for Ferrari and for the Luce in particular, especially as the brand’s sales in the country have fallen from around 1,500 cars annually in 2022 to roughly 900 cars in 2025.

Part of this decline is linked to high taxes on luxury vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, as well as the difficulty of obtaining license plates for traditional petrol powered cars in major Chinese cities.

Since the Luce is fully electric, it gives owners easier access to registration plates and is reportedly exempt from China’s 40 percent consumption tax. As a result, the Luce starts at 586,600 dollars in China, making it around 53,000 dollars cheaper than its price in the United States.

Even with that advantage, the Luce remains expensive compared with several Chinese electric cars, some of which are faster, more powerful, and far more affordable.

Ferrari presents the Luce as a five seat grand tourer rather than a pure performance focused supercar. It is also expected to be significantly more exclusive than most electric vehicles on the market.

Ferrari usually does not reveal production numbers until a model reaches the end of its lifecycle and is discontinued. However, industry observers believe the company may build fewer than 1,000 Luce EVs per year, and possibly fewer than 800 units annually.
