Genesis’ 2027 GV60 Magma Steps Up to Confront BMW M and AMG

Genesis’ 2027 GV60 Magma Steps Up to Confront BMW M and AMG

Genesis is done playing quietly in the luxury corner. Say hello to the 2027 GV60 Magma—an electric performance crossover with the attitude (and numbers) to stare down BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. This fiery newcomer unleashes 650 horsepower, and from the moment it appeared, it was clear Genesis built it to send a message.

After years of measured elegance, the brand finally hit the big red performance button. Our colleague Suhaib Shasha was in France to witness the moment Genesis pulled the covers off its high-performance Magma division—an event that marked the brand’s official entry into a battlefield long ruled by European titans.

A New Beginning for Genesis Performance

Make no mistake: the GV60 Magma isn’t a facelift or a mild upgrade. It’s the opening chapter of a long-term strategy where Genesis intends to build a full lineup of high-performance electric cars over the next decade. And instead of a typical auto show reveal, Genesis chose Circuit Paul Ricard—a race track where confidence (or courage) is mandatory.

This wasn’t just a debut; it was a declaration.

Genesis says the new Magma identity isn’t obsessed with pure numbers. It’s about blending power with balance, precision, and finesse. Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke described Magma as “adrenaline injected into the DNA of Genesis—without sacrificing elegance.” The GV60 Magma channels that perfectly.

The visual upgrades also send the right signals:

  • 20 mm lower ride height

  • Wider, more muscular fenders

  • 21-inch forged wheels

  • Gloss-black aero pieces

  • Signature Magma styling

But the real drama lies under the skin.

650 Electric Horses and Performance to Match

The GV60 Magma shares its platform with Hyundai’s N performance models—but then turns everything up a notch.

  • 609 hp normally, 650 hp with Boost Mode

  • 0–96 km/h (0–60 mph): 3.4 seconds

  • 0–200 km/h: 10.9 seconds

  • Top speed: 264 km/h

And yes, it’s quicker than a Lamborghini Murciélago. In a family-sized electric crossover. Welcome to the future.

Compared to the standard GV60 Performance (483 hp), the leap is massive.

Handling, Grip, and Control Redesigned from the Ground Up

Genesis didn’t simply add power—they retuned the car to handle it. The Magma gets:

  • A reengineered suspension

  • Stiffer bushings for sharper response

  • Bigger brakes

  • An electronic limited-slip differential

  • Better cabin insulation to keep things quiet and premium

The result is a car that behaves like a performance machine without forgetting it’s still a luxury Genesis.

Virtual Gear Shifts and High-Tech Driving Fun

Borrowing from the brilliant work done on the Ioniq N, Genesis equips the GV60 Magma with its most advanced digital driving tech yet.

Virtual Gear Shift simulates gear changes by adjusting torque, sound, and motor behavior—giving EV driving a surprisingly authentic sports-car feel.

The Magma also adds:

  • Magma Mode with real-time performance gauges

  • Drift Mode for controlled sideways action

  • A motorsport-style battery cooling system for track days

This isn’t a quiet luxury EV. It’s an electric crossover with a mischievous streak.

A serious performance EV, with luxury polish, at a price designed to make European brands uncomfortable.
