Ferrari has built its reputation on speed, but as the brand moves into the electric era, it faces a new challenge: how to deliver brutal acceleration without overwhelming the human body.
That question has reportedly pushed Ferrari into an unusual partnership with NASA and medical experts as it develops its first fully electric supercar, expected to be called the Ferrari Luce.
Ferrari Wants To Avoid “Too Much” Acceleration
Electric cars can deliver instant torque in a way combustion engines never could, and Ferrari’s engineers are now studying how much acceleration the human brain can comfortably handle before passengers start to feel disoriented, uncomfortable, or even nauseous.
According to Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, the company has been working with NASA to understand the limits of human tolerance under extreme g-forces. The goal is not simply to make the car as fast as possible, but to make sure the experience remains thrilling without becoming unpleasant.
Ferrari’s First EV Could Still Be A Monster
Even with all this focus on comfort, Ferrari’s upcoming EV is expected to be incredibly powerful.
Reports suggest the Ferrari Luce could produce more than 986 horsepower, sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 2.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 310 km/h.
The car is also expected to use four electric motors, a 122-kWh battery pack, rear-wheel steering, and advanced active suspension technology borrowed from the Ferrari Purosangue and Ferrari F80.
Ferrari Wants To Keep The Driving Experience Emotional
Ferrari also appears determined not to lose the emotional connection that defines its cars.
The cabin is reportedly being designed with help from former Apple design chief Jony Ive, but unlike many modern EVs, Ferrari plans to keep real buttons and physical controls instead of relying entirely on touchscreens.
That approach reflects Ferrari’s broader philosophy for its first EV: if the sound of a combustion engine disappears, the brand wants to replace it with a new kind of emotional experience built around acceleration, sensation, and driver engagement.
Ferrari is not just trying to build the fastest electric car possible. It wants to build one that still feels unmistakably Ferrari.
