We obtained new official statements from the President of General Motors suggesting the possibility of an upcoming fully electric Camaro.

The Chevrolet Camaro, a staple of American muscle cars since 1967, ended its production in December 2023. This iconic car competed with the likes of the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger, both of which have also recently ceased production.

While Chevrolet has not given any strong hints about the Camaro’s future, Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, shared some thoughts about a potential electric Camaro. According to Reuss, an electric Camaro would not directly compete with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, a fully electric compact crossover SUV that differs from the traditional muscle car identity of the Mustang.

This information came from an interview Reuss gave to the Motor Trend team. Reuss expressed a desire to see the Camaro name return to the American market but emphasized that he doesn’t want the badge on an electric crossover or SUV. Instead, he envisions a new Camaro that honors its six-decade legacy, focusing on affordability and broad appeal rather than sheer production numbers and acceleration. He insists that the new Camaro must attract a wider audience and retain a coupe-like appearance. It remains uncertain if Chevrolet will pursue an all-new electric Dodge Charger-style vehicle.

Reuss also mentioned that the price of the electric Camaro could be comparable to the current Equinox EV, which starts at $34,995 (approximately 131,231 Saudi riyals) for the 1LT category.

However, Reuss noted that the electric Camaro is still a distant possibility, as GM needs to expand its production capabilities for the Ultium powertrain, the same setup used in the Equinox EV and GM Hummer EV.

We are eager to see the Chevrolet Camaro return to the market, and it seems the GM chief’s vision aligns with enthusiast desires. However, we will have to wait to see what GM is planning behind the scenes.
