Chinese automaker Chery has just taken a bold step into the future of electric mobility, unveiling a solid-state battery that promises an astonishing 1,300 kilometers (808 miles) of driving range on a single charge — a figure that could redefine what’s possible for everyday EV drivers.
The new technology is set to enter trial production next year, with full-scale manufacturing planned for 2027. While Chery hasn’t revealed exact charging times yet, it confirmed that the process will be significantly faster than with the LFP and NMC batteries used in most electric cars today.
Behind this innovation is the Chery Solid-State Battery Research Institute, which developed a cell boasting 600 Wh/kg of energy density — nearly double the capacity of China’s top conventional batteries. The new design also prioritizes safety, using a fireproof chemical composition that stays stable even when submerged in water or punctured. At its core lies an advanced solid electrolyte paired with a lithium–manganese-rich cathode, combining high performance with real-world reliability.
The Chery Exantis E05 will be the first model to feature this next-gen power source, setting the stage for what could become a major leap forward in electric vehicle technology.
Beyond the battery reveal, Chery celebrated another milestone — over two million vehicles sold globally, with European sales doubling to 145,000 units. That success helped the company retain its title as the best-selling Chinese brand overseas for the 22nd consecutive year.
Meanwhile, rival BYD is racing down the same path, developing its own solid-state batteries aimed at debuting in mid- and high-end models by 2027, before expanding to more affordable cars by the next decade.
The message is clear: China’s automakers are no longer just catching up — they’re leading the charge toward the next evolution of electric mobility.
