BMW XM Sales have been a source of concern since production began in December 2022. The high-performance SUV has struggled to capture the market, and the downward trend continued into the third quarter of 2024. During this period, BMW managed to sell only 307 units of the XM, marking a sharp 30.7 percent decrease compared to the same time last year, when 443 units were sold.
Another BMW struggling with sales
The poor BMW XM Sales are even more striking when compared to other models. For instance, BMW sold 543 units of the Z4 roadster in the third quarter of this year, surpassing the XM’s numbers. The Z4 operates in a niche segment and shares details with the Toyota GR Supra. While Z4 sales rose by 64 percent, this increase only added up to 212 more cars sold.

The decline in BMW XM Sales mirrors a broader issue within BMW’s overall sales performance. The company reported a 5 percent decline in passenger car sales and an 8.5 percent drop in SUV sales. Even the 3 Series, one of BMW’s best-sellers, faced a 13.7 percent decrease in sales despite its recent refresh.
However, not all the news is grim. Sales of the new 5 Series jumped by 44.7 percent, the 2 Series climbed 25.6 percent, and the X4 enjoyed a 41.8 percent boost compared to the same period last year. Despite these successes, the overall sales picture remains mostly downbeat.
Mini Sales
BMW’s Mini brand also experienced a slump, with sales dropping 33 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The Mini Countryman, the brand’s top model, saw a 16.4 percent decline, while the Cooper S hardtop faced a more modest decrease of 3.3 percent.
Looking Ahead
In summary, BMW’s overall sales have dipped by 2.1 percent year-on-year, amounting to a loss of 5,740 vehicles. With 2024 nearing its close, BMW has an uphill battle to reverse these trends. Improving BMW XM Sales will be key to ending the year on a more positive note.
