BMW is rewriting history once again. The German automaker has unveiled the stunning BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, a new concept car that officially paves the way for the upcoming all electric next generation BMW M3.
BMW M Concept Neue Klasse Gives Us a Glimpse of the 2028 M3
Since launching the BMW i4 M50 in 2021, BMW has gradually introduced electric performance into its lineup. However, enthusiasts felt that one key ingredient was still missing: a true M car without an internal combustion engine. That wait is now over, as BMW officially revealed the future of its high performance division by unveiling the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse during the legendary Le Mans weekend.
This concept serves as a preview of the all electric next generation 2028 BMW M3, transforming what once seemed impossible into a production model that will soon hit global markets.

Futuristic Design Inspired by the Shark Nose and Ducktail

Wide Body and Aerodynamic Intelligence
The car features muscular flared wheel arches, integrated V shaped front air vents extending across the hood, a massive front splitter, and an aggressive rear diffuser. These components are made from natural fiber composites, reflecting BMW’s intention to gradually move away from traditional carbon fiber.
A Nod to the Past
Despite its futuristic appearance, the concept pays tribute to BMW heritage. The front end adopts the classic Shark Nose design, while the rear showcases a traditional Ducktail Spoiler.
Le Mans Inspired Details
Center lock wheels feature Monza Red accents on the left side and blue accents on the right, representing BMW M’s historic colors. The concept also incorporates distinctive yellow dual headlights inspired by the BMW M Hybrid V8 endurance race car.
Race Car Interior with Four Bucket Seats and Roll Protection
Step inside the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse and the atmosphere immediately feels race focused. Instead of a conventional rear bench, BMW fitted two individual rear bucket seats separated by an integrated safety structure and a rear roll bar wrapped in premium black Nubuck leather. This marks the first time such a setup has been used in an M model.
The steering wheel is borrowed from the all new BMW i3 sedan, enhanced with the signature red M buttons for precise performance mode adjustments.
Four Motor Powertrain and Advanced Battery Technology
Although BMW has not yet disclosed full power figures, it has revealed several key technical details.
Independent All Wheel Drive System
The concept uses four electric motors, one for each wheel, allowing highly sophisticated torque vectoring and independent power distribution. Reports suggest the front motors can be completely disengaged, enabling a pure rear wheel drive experience.
Next Generation Battery
Power comes from an advanced battery pack with cylindrical cells and a usable capacity exceeding 100 kWh. It has been engineered to withstand repeated high performance driving and sustained power delivery. Thanks to its 800 volt electrical architecture, the vehicle is expected to support ultra fast charging speeds of up to 400 kW.
ArabGT’s View and the Truth About Its Future Name
Sources close to Munich indicate that BMW will not use the name iM3, despite previous speculation. Instead, the production version is expected to carry the traditional M3 badge. This decision reflects BMW’s confidence that the electric model possesses the necessary DNA to continue the legacy that began with the iconic E30 M3 in 1986.
Fortunately for combustion engine enthusiasts, BMW has not abandoned gasoline power. Reports suggest that a new generation M3 powered by a turbocharged inline six cylinder engine is also under development and is expected to arrive in 2028, roughly one year after the electric version. Buyers will ultimately be able to choose between electric and gasoline performance.
