After a long and memorable run in the world of open-top sports cars, the BMW Z4 is finally preparing to take its last bow. BMW has confirmed that production is coming to an end, and to honor this iconic roadster, the brand is sending it off with a special Final Edition — a respectful salute to the beloved G29 before it fades into history.
A Farewell Built Around the M40i
For its last act, BMW chose the M40i as the sole foundation for the Final Edition, but gave it a series of exclusive touches that ensure it will be remembered as something truly special. Production numbers will be extremely limited, and customization is almost nonexistent. Buyers get one choice: the transmission.
You can go with the smooth 8-speed Steptronic automatic, or celebrate driving purity with the 6-speed manual offered in the Edition Handschalter package — which also brings unique tuning for the rear dampers, steering, stability control, and the M sport differential.
The Same Legendary Heart
BMW decided to leave the engine untouched, keeping the brilliant 3.0-liter turbo straight-six exactly as it is: 382 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. No tweaks, no enhancements — just the Z4’s original driving soul preserved one last time.
Frozen Black and a Sharper, More Dramatic Look
To give the Z4 a fitting farewell, BMW dressed every Final Edition in BMW Individual Frozen Black Metallic, a color that immediately sets the tone. Add the Shadowline package, with its glossy black mirrors, grille, air intakes, and exhaust tips, and the car looks more focused and confident than ever.
The Moonlight Black fabric roof, the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Dual-Spoke 800M wheels, and the red brake calipers complete the roadster’s bold final image.
A Cabin With Thoughtful Final Touches
Inside, the Z4 Final Edition feels crafted with care. The mix of black Vernasca leather and Alcantara, accented by red stitching across the seats, doors, floor mats, and dashboard, gives the cabin a sense of occasion. Illuminated Z4 Final Edition logos on the door sills remind you that this is the end of an era.
BMW rounds out the package with a Harman Kardon sound system, the Premium Package with ambient lighting and a head-up display, and the full suite of driver assistance features.
Limited Production and a Noticeably Higher Price
BMW will build the Z4 Final Edition only from February to April 2026, urging collectors to move quickly. Pricing starts at $78,675 (destination charge included), or 295,031 SAR, placing it well above the standard M40i, which begins at $69,575 (260,906 SAR).
What Comes Next?
The future of the Z4 is still uncertain. Toyota is already preparing to retire the Supra — the Z4’s mechanical sibling — next March, while hinting at a successor. BMW, on the other hand, has kept quiet, leaving enthusiasts wondering whether the brand will ever return with another pure roadster.
