A recent report indicates that BMW is preparing to cease production of the BMW M8 Coupe by early next year.
  • According to sources, the German automaker has already halted order placements for the model and is expected to remove it from its website shortly.
  • Speculation about the future of the 8 Series lineup persists, with rumors suggesting that both the coupe and convertible variants may also face discontinuation.

It seems the BMW M8 Coupe is set to depart BMW’s portfolio next year. Large luxury coupes and convertibles have struggled to achieve significant success in the market. BMW may be following the path of its competitor Mercedes-Benz, which phased out the X-Class Coupe, Convertible, and E-Class Coupe and Convertible models some time ago. Reports now suggest BMW will do the same with the 8 Series Coupe and Convertible.

These rumors appear increasingly credible. According to a dealer newsletter highlighted by BMW Blog, the M8 Coupe will likely end production early next year. To facilitate this process, BMW has stopped accepting new orders. A blog statement notes: “Orders placed by December 20, 2024, will be fulfilled within one to two weeks, after which the model will be removed from BMW’s offerings.” Furthermore, the car and its details are expected to disappear from the company’s website in the coming month.

Sales figures show that BMW sold 4,058 units of the 8 Series in the U.S. during the first nine months of 2024, reflecting a 7.4% decline compared to the previous year. While BMW does not release a detailed breakdown of these sales, they are split across the coupe, convertible, and gran coupe models, including the M variants.

For enthusiasts of high-performance M Power models, it’s worth noting that the M8 Competition Coupe starts at $138,800, excluding the $1,175 destination fee. This powerhouse is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, generating 617 hp (626 PS in Europe) and 749 Nm of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system, the car achieves 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3 seconds and boasts a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h).
