Bentley Torcal Is The Name Of The Brand’s First Electric SUV

Bentley has finally confirmed the name of its first fully electric model. The new EV will be called the Torcal, and it will make its official debut on September 23.

The Torcal will be Bentley’s fourth model line and the brand’s first electric SUV. It will be smaller than the Bentayga, but it should still carry the same Bentley focus on luxury, comfort, and strong performance.

Bentley says the name Torcal comes from El Torcal de Antequera in southern Spain. This area is famous for its unusual limestone rocks, cliffs, and caves. The name also has a link to the Latin word torquere, which means “to twist” and is connected to the word “torque.” That makes it a fitting name for an electric Bentley, since EVs are known for instant torque.

Bentley also released a teaser image of the new SUV. The photo only shows the rear of the car, but it gives us a few clues. The long roofline confirms that the Torcal will most likely be an SUV, not a sedan or coupe. We can also see slim taillights with a diamond-like design and a black Bentley badge.

Bentley has not revealed the full technical details yet. However, the Torcal is expected to share its platform with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. This means it could come with an 800-volt system for very fast charging, along with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.

If that happens, Bentley’s first EV should offer strong acceleration, long-distance comfort, and the quiet luxury expected from the brand, but with electric power for the first time.

More details will be announced before the official reveal, but the Torcal already gives us a clear idea of where Bentley is heading in the electric era.
