An Exclusive Interview With Mercedes-Benz Middle East’s CEO

Mercedes-Benz is heading into 2026 with confidence, momentum, and a very clear message: the next chapter will be one of its most important yet. As the brand celebrates 140 years since the birth of the three-pointed star, Mercedes isn’t just looking back at its legacy — it’s setting the tone for the future with bold decisions and exciting developments.

Much of that future was revealed during an exclusive and insightful conversation between our colleague Musab Shaasha’a and Michael Stroband, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Middle East. The interview was filmed during a special episode of Business Chat, straight from the breathtaking setting of the Mille Miglia, adding even more character to a discussion that blended heritage, performance, and cutting-edge innovation.

A Business Chat That Delivered Real Answers

This wasn’t a surface-level conversation or a typical executive interview. It was packed with clear, honest answers about where Mercedes-Benz is heading — including the return of V8 engines, the timing of the next S-Class, and finally, the confirmation of the long-rumored Baby G-Class.

Here are the most important takeaways from a conversation every car enthusiast should pay attention to.

V8 Power Is Not Going Anywhere

Right from the start, Stroband addressed one of the most emotional topics for performance fans. Mercedes-AMG is not just keeping the V8 alive — it’s actively developing a brand-new V8 engine.

The reasoning is simple and refreshing: as long as customers want it, especially in markets like the Middle East, Mercedes will continue to deliver it. Even better, the new V8 will meet strict Euro 7 regulations, ensuring that the sound, character, and thrill of a proper AMG engine will live on for years to come.

Nearly 40 New Models In Two Years

According to Stroband, 2026 and 2027 will be explosive years for Mercedes-Benz, with close to 40 new or updated models planned.

One date to remember is January 29, 2025. That’s when the refreshed 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be officially unveiled, marking the brand’s 140th anniversary. The updated flagship sedan is expected to reach Middle Eastern markets in the first half of 2026.

SUV fans also have plenty to look forward to, with the new GLE and GLS scheduled to arrive toward the end of 2026.

Electrification will continue — but not at the expense of choice. Entry-level models like the CLA and GLA will be offered with both electric and petrol powertrains, while the GLC is set to move to an all-electric setup, reflecting the lifecycle of its current combustion engines.

The Baby G-Class Is Official

After endless speculation, the answer is finally clear. The compact G-Class, often referred to as the “Little G,” is officially coming in 2027.

What makes this announcement even more interesting is how closely the Middle East was involved in shaping the car. Mercedes conducted extensive feedback sessions with regional customers and experts to ensure the Baby G delivers the design, presence, and character expected from a G-Wagen — even in a smaller package. A new icon is clearly in the making.

Smarter Cars With A More Human Touch

Starting with 2026 models — beginning with the CLA and later expanding to the S-Class — Mercedes will introduce its new MB.OS operating system across the lineup.

Powered by artificial intelligence, the system transforms the car into more than just a vehicle. It learns your preferences, holds natural conversations, suggests destinations and restaurants, and turns the familiar “Welcome Home” feeling into a genuinely intelligent luxury experience.

Maybach Luxury And AMG Pure Speed Exclusivity

At the very top of the range, Mercedes is doubling down on both luxury and performance.

Maybach continues to grow, with the Manufaktur program offering thousands of customization possibilities, allowing owners to create truly bespoke cars tailored to their taste.

On the performance side, the AMG Pure Speed — a fully open, Formula 1–inspired hypercar — is confirmed for the Middle East, with a strong regional allocation despite global production being limited to just 250 units.
