The German performance battle is heating up again. Mercedes-AMG is preparing the biggest product offensive in its history, with 27 all-new models planned within just 36 months. The mission is clear: chase down BMW M, close the sales gap, and fight back for the performance crown.
Mercedes-AMG Wakes Up with 27 New Models and a Strong V8 Comeback
Last year’s numbers seem to have shaken AMG awake in Affalterbach. BMW M sold a record 213,457 cars and achieved its 14th straight year of growth, while Mercedes-AMG stopped at around 145,000 cars.
That gap was too big to ignore.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe has now confirmed an aggressive three-year plan that includes more than 27 new models. The target is to push annual sales beyond 200,000 cars and challenge BMW M for the lead before the end of the decade.
A New Strategy: Less Forced Electrification, More Choice
Mercedes-AMG seems to have realized something important: performance fans do not all want the same future.
Instead of pushing everything toward full electrification, AMG will offer a broader mix of pure combustion engines, hybrid powertrains, and fully electric models. In other words, the brand wants to please both the V8 loyalists and the EV crowd.
And the coming lineup sounds serious.
The fully electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will lead the electric side, while the GLE 63 and GLS 63 are set to receive a completely new V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft.
AMG is also preparing a special Mythos model based on the CLE, powered by a V8 and aimed at collectors and hardcore fans. A less extreme CLE 63 is expected alongside it.
The surprises do not stop there. AMG is working on a G63 Convertible, a new generation of the legendary GT Black Series, a six-cylinder C53 using the inline-six engine from the new GLC 53, and a high-performance electric SUV based on the GT 4-Door platform.
Fewer Engines, Smarter Development
Although AMG is expanding its lineup heavily, it plans to simplify what sits under the hood.
Instead of offering ten different engine options, Mercedes-AMG wants to reduce that number to just four. This should make development, production, and maintenance more efficient.
The main combustion lineup will focus on two key engines: a newly developed inline-six and a completely new V8.
The future of AMG’s controversial four-cylinder engines remains unclear, especially after the debate surrounding the latest C63. They may continue in hybrid roles, but AMG has not confirmed the full picture yet.
What is clear, however, is that Mercedes is not ready to abandon large gasoline engines, even beyond 2030. Still, fans should not expect a pure V8-powered C-Class AMG to return anytime soon.
Where Is the E63 AMG?
One major name was missing from the official comments: the E63 AMG.
Reports suggest Mercedes has already shown the next-generation E-Class to dealers in the United States. The model is expected to arrive first as a fully electric version in early 2028, with gasoline and hybrid versions following later.
The good news for enthusiasts is that the wagon body style appears to be staying alive. That means we could eventually see a new E63 Wagon facing off against the BMW M5 Touring and Audi RS6 Avant.
