2027 Nissan Z Nismo Finally Gets a Manual and GT-R Power

After years of demand from enthusiasts, Nissan has finally delivered what many believed was missing from the Z lineup. The 2027 Nissan Z Nismo now comes equipped with a proper 6-speed manual transmission, and this time it’s not just an addition—it’s a carefully engineered upgrade that reshapes the driving experience. Alongside this major change, the entire Z family receives updates across design, technology, and performance, making it more refined and capable than ever.

The updated Z is set to debut at the New York Auto Show (April 3–12), before arriving in showrooms this summer, carrying a balance of classic identity and modern engineering.

The Manual Gearbox That Changes the Character

The introduction of a manual transmission to the Nismo variant is easily the most important update. Nissan developed a dedicated 6-speed gearbox specifically for this model, ensuring it can handle the car’s performance without compromise. The clutch has been reinforced to match the added demands, while shorter shift throws provide a more direct and engaging feel behind the wheel.

This change is further supported by a revised engine calibration. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 responds more aggressively when paired with the manual, delivering sharper throttle input and a more connected driving experience that emphasizes driver involvement rather than outright numbers.

A Design That Blends Heritage with Function

On the outside, the 2027 Z evolves its design with a clear nod to its heritage, but with a stronger focus on aerodynamics. The front end adopts smoother, more flowing lines, replacing sharper edges to improve airflow and reduce drag.

The grille has also been redesigned to move away from the previous rectangular look, now featuring a more refined horizontal layout with a body-colored accent. New color options, including the striking Shinkai Green Pearl inspired by early Z models, add a distinctive touch—especially when paired with a contrasting black roof.

GT-R Engineering Finds Its Way Into the Z

Nissan has taken a significant step by integrating performance elements derived from the GT-R. The front braking system now features two-piece discs combining iron and aluminum, reducing weight while improving heat management under demanding driving conditions.

Steering has also been refined, with a reduction in internal friction that translates into smoother inputs and more precise feedback. This results in greater confidence when pushing the car through corners, making it feel more controlled and predictable.

Practical Improvements That Make a Difference

Beyond performance upgrades, Nissan has introduced subtle but important improvements. The fuel tank has been redesigned to ensure consistent fuel delivery even under high G-forces, which is particularly relevant during aggressive driving.

Inside the cabin, the Z receives a modern update with a 15W Qi2 wireless charger that supports magnetic alignment, improving everyday usability. The Performance variant also benefits from upgraded suspension components, enhancing stability and ride quality.

Familiar Power, Enhanced Experience

Under the hood, the formula remains unchanged but still strong. The twin-turbocharged V6 produces 420 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque in the Nismo variant, while other trims deliver 400 horsepower.

Although official pricing has yet to be announced, expectations place the range between $43,000 and $66,000, depending on the specification.

ArabGT Take

With these updates, the Nissan Z finally feels complete. The addition of a manual gearbox to the Nismo is more than a technical feature—it represents a return to what made the Z name special in the first place. Combined with GT-R-derived components and thoughtful engineering improvements, the car now offers a more engaging and focused driving experience that better aligns with enthusiast expectations.
