There are off-road vehicles that look tough, and then there are those that feel like they were born in the dirt. The 2027 Ford Bronco RTR belongs firmly in the second category. Revealed at the 2026 Detroit Auto Show, this special Bronco isn’t about flashy badges or cosmetic upgrades—it’s about bringing real racing experience into the hands of everyday off-road enthusiasts.
The project is the result of a close collaboration between Ford and RTR Vehicles, a name deeply rooted in off-road competition. The goal was simple but ambitious: take what works in the brutal world of desert racing and package it into a factory-built Bronco that’s ready to be driven hard, straight off the showroom floor.
This isn’t a show car. It’s a machine shaped by places where mistakes break parts and hesitation costs you momentum—places like King of the Hammers.
Why The 2027 Bronco RTR Thinks Differently About Power
On paper, the biggest surprise is what’s under the hood. Instead of chasing headline numbers with a big V6, Ford chose to give the Bronco RTR a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder. For some, that might sound underwhelming—until you understand the thinking behind it.
In off-road driving, balance often beats brute force. The lighter engine reduces weight over the front axle, making the Bronco feel sharper, more responsive, and easier to place when crawling over rocks or charging across dunes. It’s the kind of decision racers appreciate immediately, even if spec sheets don’t.
And this isn’t a basic setup. The engine benefits from Raptor-derived hardware, including an anti-lag system that keeps the turbo ready at all times, so power is there the instant you need it. Cooling is handled by a massive 1,000-watt fan borrowed directly from the Bronco Raptor, ensuring the engine stays composed even when the desert turns unforgiving.
Suspension That Does The Heavy Lifting
If engines get the headlines, suspension wins races—and Ford clearly knows that. The HOSS 3.0 suspension package is the real heart of the Bronco RTR.
At its core are FOX adaptive dampers that constantly adjust to terrain changes, delivering comfort on normal roads and confidence when the ground disappears beneath you. Whether you’re landing jumps, hammering through rough trails, or cruising back home, the setup feels purpose-built rather than compromised.
The suspension is paired with 35-inch Sasquatch off-road tires, wide fender flares, and a stance that feels planted and aggressive. It’s not just about looking tough—it’s about staying in control when things get wild.
Design That Speaks Without Shouting
Visually, the Bronco RTR doesn’t try to impress everyone—and that’s exactly the point. Its Hyper Lime accents on the grille and wheels are unmistakably RTR, instantly signaling that this Bronco plays by different rules.
The available Avalanche Gray paint gives it a stealthy, serious look, while the graphics nod to RTR’s racing heritage without feeling overdone. Steel front bumpers improve approach angles and remind you that everything here serves a purpose. Nothing feels added for attention alone.
Tested Where It Actually Matters
Loren Healy, one of RTR’s most respected drivers, summed it up perfectly from the show floor. He explained that the Bronco RTR was developed and tested in Johnson Valley, one of the harshest proving grounds imaginable.
The philosophy mirrored that of the Bronco Raptor—but filtered through RTR’s lens of precision, agility, and real-world racing experience. In other words, this wasn’t built to survive Instagram photos. It was built to survive punishment.
