Kia has unveiled the high-performance 2026 EV9 GT at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, showcasing its top-tier SUV offering with three rows of fully electric seating and enhanced performance.
Power and Performance
The new 2026 Kia EV9 GT is equipped with dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 501 horsepower and featuring an all-wheel-drive system. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.3 seconds, making it exceptionally fast for its size. This is a notable upgrade from the standard EV9 2025 model, which produces 379 horsepower.
While Kia hasn’t disclosed details about the battery, it’s expected to feature a capacity similar to the 99.8 kWh battery used in the standard EV9. With 800-volt technology, the battery can recharge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes with a fast charger. Additionally, all EV9s sold in the United States starting in 2025 will include the NACS charging port, granting access to Tesla’s extensive DC fast-charging network.
Enhanced Features
The 2026 EV9 GT includes several performance upgrades beyond the powertrain:
- Active dampers for improved handling.
- Larger front brake discs for better stopping power.
- An electronic limited-slip differential.
- Driving modes such as Normal, Eco, Sport, and Custom (My Drive), allowing the driver to adjust elements like suspension, steering, and brakes.
Kia also introduced a Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system, which simulates gear changes to enhance the driving experience. This feature, akin to Hyundai’s N e-shift system, allows drivers to activate simulated shifts using paddle shifters, replicating the sensation of a traditional transmission.
Exterior Highlights
The 2026 Kia EV9 GT exterior distinguishes itself with a unique lighting pattern on the grille, 21-inch wheels, and neon green brake calipers, emphasizing its high-performance identity.
Interior Upgrades
Inside, neon green accents, a hallmark of Kia’s GT models, are integrated throughout the cabin, including the steering wheel and seats. The front seats feature Alcantara upholstery and embossed GT logos, which are also visible in the infotainment system menus.
Production and Availability
Although Kia began U.S. production of the standard EV9 earlier this year, the 2026 Kia EV9 GT will be manufactured exclusively in South Korea. Pricing for the high-performance SUV will be announced ahead of its global launch in the second half of 2025.
Popularity and Sales
Despite a slower growth rate for electric vehicle sales, the EV9 remains a popular choice. In the U.S., Kia sold 17,911 units of the EV9 through October 2024, surpassing the sales of the EV6. With its high-performance upgrades and advanced features, the 2026 Kia EV9 GT is poised to continue building on this success.
