The 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty has been seen undergoing road tests in the United States, despite not being destined for sale in the American market.
Ford is gearing up to position the Ranger against the big players by developing a heavy-duty variant of the popular mid-size pickup truck. This new version, set for release in 2026, will adopt the Super Duty branding, a name synonymous with the robust Ford F-Series trucks.

A test prototype was recently captured near Ford’s headquarters in the U.S., revealing some striking features. The images showcase wide wheel arches, a raised suspension system, a sturdy engine cover, and General Grabber All-Terrain tires mounted on durable steel rims. Additionally, the prototype includes an industrial tub, hinting at its utility focus.
Interestingly, while the Ranger Super Duty is being tested on American soil, the truck isn’t slated for the U.S. market. Development efforts are primarily led by Ford’s International Markets Group in Australia, and production will take place exclusively at Ford’s Thailand facility, which manufactures Rangers for regions outside North America. For context, the U.S.-spec Ford Ranger is assembled in Michigan.
Enhanced Towing and Performance
The 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty boasts significant upgrades, including a maximum towing capacity of 4,500 kilograms (9,920 pounds)—a considerable improvement over the standard Ranger’s 3,402 kilograms (7,500 pounds). The truck’s gross vehicle weight also stands at 4,500 kilograms (9,920 pounds), highlighting its heavy-duty capabilities.
Designed for Commercial Use
Ford has designed this model with commercial buyers in mind, targeting industries that demand enhanced towing and off-road performance. These sectors include emergency services, agriculture, forestry, mining, and utility companies.
Although unavailable in the U.S., this won’t be the first Ranger variant to skip the American market. International buyers already have access to options like the Ranger Hybrid, underscoring Ford’s focus on catering to global markets with diverse needs.
