Our ArabGT team was on the ground in Jeddah, covering the highly anticipated global debut of Kia’s first-ever pickup truck, the 2025 Kia Tasman, through a live broadcast on our official Instagram account. Launched at the Jeddah Motor Show 2024, the Kia Tasman marks the brand’s entry into the competitive pickup market, ready to compete with established models like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Designed for both work and recreational use, the Tasman combines rugged capability with advanced technology and a sleek, functional design, setting a new standard for Kia.
Kia Tasman Overview
The 2025 Kia Tasman is available with diesel and gasoline engine options depending on the market, and buyers can choose between single-cabin and double-cabin configurations. Kia promotes the Tasman with the slogan “Explore a New Dimension,” emphasizing its capabilities for various lifestyles. Designed with five decades of automotive expertise, the Tasman promises both practical functionality and a touch of luxury, merging work capabilities with the versatility needed for leisure.
Design and Aesthetics
Kia’s design team adopted a minimalist approach, focusing on practical strength without the heavy, bulky aesthetics common in traditional pickups. The Tasman features a prominent wide front grille, Kia’s signature “tiger face” grille, vertical headlights, and a strong, angular build. This design approach aims to blend functionality with style, creating a pickup that feels both modern and tough.
Karim Habib, Kia’s Executive VP and Head of Global Design, describes the Tasman as a vehicle “for explorers and adventurers,” built to be a reliable partner for all kinds of journeys. The vehicle is available in nine exterior colors, including unique options like Dark Beige and Jeans Blue, alongside classic shades like Pure White and Northern Black Pearl.
Interior Innovation and Comfort
The Tasman’s cabin departs from typical truck interiors, offering a clean, minimalist look with high-quality materials. Key interior elements include large hexagonal-pattern air vents, a multi-functional steering wheel, and a modern, organized center console equipped with intuitive controls for ease of use. Kia also offers luxury touches, such as leather seating options, a Harman Kardon eight-speaker premium sound system, and advanced infotainment via a panoramic widescreen setup. This includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch center display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, all equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Storage is thoughtfully integrated throughout the cabin, with features like a folding center console, a large folding table, two wireless charging pads, and under-seat storage. For added versatility, rear seats provide up to 33 liters of storage, and additional head, shoulder, and legroom enhance comfort, depending on market-specific configurations.
Performance and Off-Road Capabilities
Kia offers the Tasman with a choice of engines and driving modes to meet the needs of different markets:
- Korea: 2.5-liter petrol engine with 281 horsepower and 421 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
- Australia: 2.2-liter diesel engine delivering 441 Nm of torque, also paired with an eight-speed automatic.
- Middle East and Africa: Options include both the 2.5-liter petrol and the 2.2-liter diesel, with either an automatic or a six-speed manual transmission depending on market demands.
To enhance off-road capabilities, Kia’s X-Pro model includes an additional Rock mode for mountainous terrain, with Desert, Mud, Snow, and Rock modes standard in 4WD models for the Middle East and Africa. Meanwhile, general markets like Australia have Sand, Mud, Snow, and Rock modes. The X-Pro model also offers an advanced electronic locking rear differential and an X-Trek mode, which automatically adjusts speed during off-road driving, optimizing control.
The 2025 Kia Tasman incorporates Kia’s Ground Monitoring Vision (GVM) system, using cameras to provide drivers with a ground-level view, ideal for precise maneuvers in rough terrain.
Practicality for Work and Play
Built with small business owners in mind, the Tasman comes equipped with features tailored to tradespeople, farmers, and other outdoor professionals. Standard angled steps make it easy to access the load bed, while available options include a power outlet for tools or electronics and a sliding load floor for simplified loading. Additionally, side flexes with a small table, ideal for outdoor activities, and a folding console that converts the cabin into a workspace, add to the Tasman’s versatility.
The load area offers best-in-class dimensions, measuring 1,512 mm in length, 1,572 mm in width (1,186 mm between the wheels), and 540 mm in depth. This provides a spacious 1,173 liters of load capacity, with a maximum payload of 1,195 kg and towing capacity up to 3,500 kg, supported by Kia’s strengthened multi-structure body.
Advanced Technology for Safety and Comfort
The 2025 Kia Tasman integrates advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Collision Alert, and Remote Parking Assist, enhancing both on-road and off-road safety. The vehicle also features Kia’s Truck Personalisation function, which adjusts ADAS settings according to trailer specifications, providing optimal driving stability when towing.
Sound-insulating materials, wind-resistant strips, and noise-reduction technology contribute to a quieter cabin, enhancing comfort during long highway drives. Additionally, Kia’s Selective Damper Control (SDC) and hydraulic rebound damper enhance body control and reduce cabin vibrations, even in rugged terrain.
Environmental Responsibility and Model Variants
In line with Kia’s commitment to sustainability, the 2025 Kia Tasman incorporates eco-friendly materials, including bioplastic crash pads, seats made from recycled PET fabric, and interior carpets using recycled PET. Five interior color schemes are available, including Onyx Black/Medium Grey and Deep Green/Clay Brown for the X-Line and X-Pro models.
Three main trims are offered: the base model, X-Line, and X-Pro, each tailored for different uses. The X-Line features 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, while the X-Pro includes 17-inch black gloss wheels, additional ground clearance, and off-road-specific features.
Personalization Options
Kia provides an array of custom accessories for the 2025 Kia Tasman, allowing owners to personalize the truck for leisure or work. The pickup offers four bed configurations: Single Decker, Double Decker, Sports Bar, and Ladder Rack, with several complementary products, such as beadlock-style wheels and horizontal side bars.
Global Debut and Market Availability
After its debut in Jeddah, the 2025 Kia Tasman is set to launch in Korea in the first half of 2025, followed by Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. Kia anticipates strong demand in Saudi Arabia and has tailored certain features for the region’s market preferences, such as a reinforced engine structure to withstand water crossings up to 800 mm. The Tasman’s off-road technology has been tested globally, ensuring that it meets the highest durability standards for varied terrains, from snowy landscapes to scorching deserts.
Through its thoughtful design, off-road capabilities, and versatility, the Kia Tasman is set to make a bold impact in the pickup truck market, appealing to customers who need a vehicle that combines work utility with adventure-ready features.
