The 2025 GMC Terrain has officially made its debut, and today we’ll walk you through the updates this compact American crossover SUV has received.

The current generation of the GMC Terrain first hit the market in 2018, followed by a facelift in 2022. Despite its age, the Terrain remains GMC’s most popular SUV during the first half of this year. Now, GMC has introduced a new version of the 2025 Terrain, which is being promoted as the standard specification model.

So, what exterior changes does the 2025 GMC Terrain boast?

At first glance, the exterior design of the 2025 GMC Terrain might seem familiar, as it closely resembles the previous model. The iconic C-shaped LED headlights still define the front, but the front end has undergone a significant redesign. The grille is now larger and more rectangular, positioned above a more angular and sharply contoured front fascia.

On the sides, the C-pillar has been redesigned with a forward-leaning angle, similar to what you’ll find on the Chevrolet Equinox. The rear of the vehicle features straighter lines on the lower fascia, with vertically oriented reflectors adding a fresh touch. The C-shaped taillights are now more compact, and the small rear windows have been replaced by larger glass panels, enhancing visibility. A new two-tone roof option is available, accentuating the floating roof effect created by the updated C-pillar design.

Inside

Inside the 2025 GMC Terrain, the changes are far more noticeable. The cabin now features a 15-inch digital display in the center of the dashboard, accompanied by an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. All 2025 Terrain models come standard with advanced technology, including 15 driver assistance systems and integrated Google Assistant. Optional features include a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, a 5G hotspot, and an array of eight exterior cameras, more than any previous Terrain model.

When it comes to mechanical specifications, the 2025 Terrain hasn’t changed much. The only engine option is still a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 175 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque. This is the same engine used in the current Terrain, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Initially, the 2025 Terrain will come standard with all-wheel drive, though GMC has confirmed that a front-wheel drive version will be available later.

There are still many details about the new Terrain that GMC hasn’t disclosed. The vehicle appears to be slightly longer and wider, but specific dimensions and any changes to the chassis have not been shared. The Elevation trim will be the first to launch as the 2025 standard, replacing the SLE and SLT trims, and is expected to hit dealerships in late 2024. The Terrain AT4 and Terrain Denali trims will follow as 2026 models, offering additional features, luxury touches, and in the case of the AT4, more off-road capabilities.

The GMC Terrain faces stiff competition in the market, going up against practical vehicles like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Ford Bronco Sport, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Honda CR-V.
