Have You Ever Seen a Defender Pickup Before? Now You Have

A dream that many off-road enthusiasts have talked about for years has finally come true: the world’s first Land Rover Defender pickup is here. But while the transformation is stunning, there’s one small problem — literally.

Reinventing a Legend

The Defender has always been a symbol of strength and adventure. Turning it into a pickup has long been the fantasy of fans who love the idea of rugged utility wrapped in British heritage. Land Rover, however, never pursued the idea. For them, the modern Defender was meant to be a luxury SUV with capability, not a work truck.

That’s where the Dutch specialists at Heritage Customs stepped in. Known for their bespoke craftsmanship, they decided to break convention and turn the long-wheelbase Defender 130 into a pickup truck — a bold fusion of classic utility and modern luxury.

The result? A vehicle that looks breathtaking, but also sparks debate.

The Beautiful Flaw

Heritage Customs stripped out the third row of seats, redesigned the rear structure in aluminum, and strengthened the frame — all to preserve the Defender’s off-road toughness. The result is beautifully executed, with every curve and proportion perfectly balanced.

But here’s the twist: the pickup bed, which should be the heart of any truck, measures just one meter long. It’s so compact that it can only hold small luggage or a bike at best. In other words, this pickup isn’t built for hauling — it’s built to be admired.

Even Heritage Customs admits it’s not a vehicle for practicality. It’s for those who want something no one else has — a rolling statement that blends history, craftsmanship, and exclusivity.

Rugged Elegance

Visually, the Defender Pickup is mesmerizing. The classic Land Rover stance is enhanced with wider wheel arches, massive alloy wheels, and two-tone Heritage paintwork that looks both vintage and sophisticated. It’s a design that commands attention without shouting for it.

Inside, nothing about the Defender’s luxury DNA has been lost. Buyers can choose between two distinct interior themes:

  • Heritage, with warm leathers and vintage textures inspired by the original Defenders.

  • Urban, featuring darker materials, sport stitching, and contemporary finishes.

Every cabin is custom-built, down to the stitching pattern and dashboard engraving. No two vehicles are ever the same — and that’s the point.

Still a Defender at Heart

Underneath all the artistry, the pickup keeps its muscle. Customers can choose between a 395-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine or a 518-horsepower supercharged V8. Both come with Land Rover’s legendary all-wheel-drive system and adjustable air suspension, ensuring that, even in this new form, the Defender’s go-anywhere spirit remains untouched.

Exclusivity Comes at a Price

Heritage Customs will begin production in February 2026, with conversion prices starting around €65,000 (roughly SAR 260,000) — before adding the cost of the base Defender 130. Fully built with a V8 engine and full customization, total pricing could exceed SAR 700,000.

Clearly, this isn’t a pickup for everyone. It’s aimed at a small circle of collectors who value craftsmanship, nostalgia, and individuality over practicality.

A Work of Art on Wheels

Calling the Defender Pickup a truck might be technically correct, but it’s really more of a mechanical sculpture. Its bed may be too small to carry much, but its presence, design, and engineering make it something far greater than a tool — it’s an expression of passion for a timeless icon.

And in that sense, Heritage Customs has succeeded. They haven’t just built a pickup; they’ve built a conversation piece — one that turns a rugged off-roader into a masterpiece for the road.
