The next few years may witness the launch of Land Rover Defender 80, a new vehicle that represents a smaller variant of the new Defender and a cheaper one, to suit the new economic situation expected after the coronavirus epidemic.
After our colleague Suhaib Shashaa has test-driven the new five-door Defender 110 in one of the episodes of Special Coverage program that included an exploration journey to the country of Namibia in South Africa, today we will talk about a report indicating that the British company is working to provide a new version of the new generation Defender.
According to what was published on Car and Driver website, it appears that the British manufacturer is currently secretly working on developing a small-sized version of Defender, that will be sold for 30 thousand US dollars, equivalent to 112,500 Saudi riyals. This new car is expected to have the name Land Rover Defender 80, and it may appear in 2022.
This report also added that the Land Rover Defender 80 may use a chassis made by the Indian company, Tata Motors, which owns the Land Rover brand. Most likely, it will be the same chassis used Tata Harrier vehicles sold in the Indian market.
Mechanically, the cheap 2022 Defender is expected to rely on the Ingenium engine from Jaguar Land Rover, which is a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, and this beating heart will probably be supported with a hybrid system.
As a reminder, the 2020 Defender, which currently come in two versions Defender 110 and Defender 90 is available with these options of engines:
A 3-liter 6-cylinder engine with 395 hp (400 PS) and 550 Nm of torque.
A2 -liter 4-cylinder engine with 296 hp (300 PS S) and 400 Nm of torque.
And as we mentioned before, the price of the 2020 Defender starts in the UAE market from 208,950 AED, which equals 56,895 SAR.
