The new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is clearly built for a high rate of speed, and it seems that 2 GM engineers were overtaken by the thrill that they decided to test that speed on their own. But how they did it and where they did it, got them in hot water!
According to official information obtained by our ArabGT team, the US police arrested two GM employees during the past week, after they raced on public streets in Bowling Green, Kentucky, using two versions of the most recent Chevrolet Corvette.
The police report said that the arrest of the 2 employees: Alexander Thim and Mark Derkatz took place last Wednesday, January 8th, when each of them was driving an all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 at a speed exceeding road speed limit of 72 km / h. (45 mph), as both employees were driving cars at speeds faster than 120 km / h.
Kentucky state troopers also said the men had just left a pool hall and could smell alcohol on their breath.
As a result of the reckless driving and the illegal race carried out by the employees on public streets exceeding the road speed limit, they were both brought before a judge in a courtroom.
It turns out that the 27-year-old Alexander Them, who works as an engineer, was driving the new Corvette at a speed of 193 km / h! While Mark Drakatz, 30, who works as an electrical engineer, drove the other Corvette at a speed of 160 km / h, and there was a third Corvette with them, but its driver did not participate in the illegal race on the public road.
They were charged with reckless driving, racing on a public highway and driving more than 26 mph faster than the posted speed limit.
“We are aware of an incident involving our test vehicles and are currently investigating. Safety remains our overriding priority at General Motors. We have no further comment at this time,” General Motors said in a statement.
