Today’s episode of Special Coverage program is very special indeed, it will be appreciated by the fans of American muscle cars, as the star of today’s episode will be the 2020 Shelby GT500, the most powerful and fastest Ford production car yet, which our colleague Suhaib Shashaa has test-driven in Los Angeles, USA.
For people who do not recall, the global launch of Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 took place in the beginning of 2019, at t Detroit Auto Show last January, where the founder of our site, Mousub Shashaa, was present to cover this global event.
Suhaib started the episode talking about the aggressive look that distinguishes the new Mustang Shelby GT500. Exterior updates included a larger hood with a functional louvered hood vent. The car also had signature GT500 badging on the front fascia with larger and 50 percent more cooling pack airflow versus the Shelby GT350.
It is possible to order the most powerful Mustang car with the Carbon Fiber Track Package that provides many parts made of carbon fiber, which greatly reduces the car’s weight.
In this package, The rear seat is deleted to reduce weight and the car is equipped with 20-inch rims and with two options of Michelin tires. The car also got Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 starts with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 aluminum-alloy engine built by hand, and the team also installed a 2.65-liter supercharger. The engine generates 740 hp and 847 N.m of torque, and it is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is capable of shifts in under 100 milliseconds – markedly faster than any manual gearbox
The new Shelby, with a weight of 1,850 kilograms, accelerates from 0 to 96 km / h (60 mph) in 3.3 seconds, and tackles the quarter-mile in less than 10.7 s! The most powerful Ford car can accelerate from 0 to 160 km / h and back to zero in 10.6 seconds over a distance of 800 feet and has a top speed of 289 km / h.
